Solomon Gershov The bridge in the old town

Gershov is a remarkable painter. Born in 1906 in Dvinsk, he was a pupil of Chagall and later lived in Leningrad in the 1920's. He was also a friend of Filonov and Malevitch. In 1934 all of Gershov's painting were confiscated (they later totally disappeared) and he was arrested and sent to Magadan. Upon liberation from the campus he continued to paint until his death in 1982 and was highly considered, yet his life and work are little known.
