Piotr Belenok was born in Kurogrod (Kiev region, the Ukraine) in 1938.He began as a sculptor. In 1967 he moved to Moscow, where he came into contact with the" Underground, nonconformist, artists ". As a great master of this period, Piotr Belenok remains pecularly himself although he has much in common with Surrealism; comparisons are difficult to make. The art historian,Janet Kennedy says: "Belenok, for example, takes fragments of so-called REALITY -usually figures-from photographic sources and sets them adrift in space. He refers to his paintings simply as PANIC REALISM..." Piotr Belenok died in 1991.
