Zverev's free drawing and sketches show the perfect lines of a virtuoso and
the extraordinary liberty of colour and powerful energy of his forms are
masterful. One of the best works by the artist in the Lili Brochetain Collection
is his seizing, "Portrait of Nemoukhin" wherein the painter, who appears
as a dreamy long-faced young man with a huge forehead, seems to have been
portrayed by just a few brushstrokes. "My God, but it is incredible!" Nemoukhin
cried when he saw this portrait years later in the Brochetains' apartment
in Paris.
